Tagging Tate 2007, Tate Britain, London

A two-day exploration of sugar, slogans and tagging. Participants in these workshops were given an opportunity to debate themes around the 1807–2007 commemoration of the Act abolishing slavery and look at the politically-charged work of Mark Wallinger. To conclude the workshops, the walls of the Duveen galleries and entrance to Tate Britain were tagged using sugar as a medium.

Garland #12 (Festival Theatre) 2007, Cambridge Buddhist Centre, Cambridge

Garland #12 is part of a series of sculptures and installations made with diverse materials including yarn, string, paper, cloth, knitted and knotted together by volunteer participants and gallery visitors. During the making of Garland #12, the Buddhist concept of interconnectedness was explored as well as experiencing the value of making collaborative art. Art as ritual and the shared votive and celebratory qualities of theatre informed the realization and process of the piece.
In 1926 the Festival Theatre’s patron Terence Gray said that he wanted audiences to “come to the theatre as to a party, and act there in their imaginations according to the pattern of the play.” Garland #12 embraces the sentiments of Gray’s words.

Knitting Piece #14 (Burgos) 2006, Centro de Arte, Burgos

An ongoing series of participatory pieces started in 2004. Volunteer knitters join a circle, and sharing circular needles, work together on the creation of a large knitted loop. These pieces od more than simply celebrate the craft of knitting. They are about creating a space for social interaction, about conversations, stories told, memories recalled. The resulting knitted loops with photographs attached trace the history of this shared activity.

This piece was ongoing throughout the nEUclear reactions exhibition held at the CAB in Burgos, Spain. All 13 previous knitted pieces were exhibited alongside this one.

Cake Decorating (Cake for Me, Bread for the Others), MKgalerie.nl, Rotterdam, 2006

Cake decorating taking place throughout the exhibition Cake for Me, Bread for the Others at MKgalerie.nl in Rotterdam. Some200 cakles were made during this time, adding to the existing 150 strong collection of cakes from Sweet Nothings: an intimate history of cake decorating at the Pump House Gallery, London. The collection will touring and has so far been displayed in the galleries at the Museum of Arts and Design (MoDA) in 2006.

Garland #6-11 (Bracknell) 2006, South Hill Park, Bracknell

A series of participatory installation at South Hill Park, part of the Unravel Festival. School children and visitors at the centre were invited to contribute to the creation of several walk in artworks by knitting and knotting. The resulting works wer later exhibited in the upstaris galleries at the centre. For images of these, go to sculptures.

Musical Sculptures, Tate Britain, London, 2006

A series of family workshops involving the making and playing musical sculptures inspired by the pipes, cones and tubes of British sculptor William Turnbull. The playing of the sculptures took place in the Duveen Galleries next to the Turnbull display at the end of each workshop.

Garland #5 (Paris) 2006, Andy Wahloo, Paris

An evening of music, art and performance held at Andy Wahloo, on a hot summer's evening, with contributions by Matthew Glamorre, Bishi, Marjan Pejoski and myself. At the end of the evening, the web was cut loose and entrapped the glamorous bounty of invitees. Webs... they're all about connections.

Knitting Piece #13 (Bracknell) 2006, South Hill Park, Bracknell

Piece conceived for Fresh, a live arts and performance festival held at South Hill Park, Bracknell. The day ended with stretching out the knitting on the lawn outside the arts centre. The piece was later included in the exhibition nEUclear reactions at the CAB in Burgos.
