Showroom Doily 2004,
knicker elastic, 350 x 350 x 300cm. Disused shoe factory, King's Cross,
London.
This piece consisted of a large cobweb stretched over the shelving in
the former showroom of the disused factory. Attached directly to the fitted
furniture, the elasticated web challenged its uniformity while highlighting
the unique and man-made nature of both structures. The giant cobweb also
provided an ironic response to the delapidated character of the space,
a far cry from the once customer friendly environment, as well as a comment
on the fast and furious redevelopment in the King's Cross area and the
impact it has on the local community. See also Going
